Happy Birthday Basil!

27/04/2010

Today is my gorgeous neighbour Basil’s 88th birthday. (Remember him from the ANZAC Day parade picture on Sunday?) This dear man was a Warrant Officer in the Air Force in World War II. He was shot down in the North Sea, and spent 4 days in a liferaft waiting for the Royal Navy to come and rescue him – but the German Navy got there first, and he became a prisoner of war. He was marched across Poland into Germany, hundreds of miles, as the allies kept advancing. Fortunately he lived to see the end of the war, and brought an English girl back to be his wife. Now we live next to him and his wife Irene, and have come to know them and their family very well over the last 6 years.

I already knew I wanted to use the ‘Pocket Silhouettes’ stampset to make his card. The colours were  inspired by the Inkspiration Colour Challenge #21:

And I used the Saturday Sketch Challenge from Stamping 411:

I gave it a bit of lift by running the Whisper White layer through the Big Shot, embossing it with Perfect Polka Dots. And I used the Tiny Tags stampset and the medium jewellery tag punch for the tags, tied off with a piece of linen thread.

Happy Birthday, Basil. Just remember – Navy is still the senior service! 🙂

This looks stunning Bron! I bet Basil was tickled with it.

And, should you be mentioning about there being so many seniors still serving in the Navy?? 😉
